In an effort to enhance emergency response preparedness and ensure the safety of our community, a joint major drill exercise was conducted by IOT Management Sdn Bhd (IOTMSB) with several agencies. The incident involved a collision of petroleum tankers that resulted in subsequent fire, evacuation, and oil spill.
The exercise aims to test the effectiveness of response protocols, strengthen coordination between multiple agencies, and to inform the public about emergency procedures.
Taking place in Senari Synergy Industrial Complex, Jalan Bako, Kuching, relevant agencies involved, are Kuching District Police, Tabuan Jaya Fire Station & Rescue, Department of Environment, Department of Occupational Safety & Health, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, Kuching Port Authority, Malaysian National Security Council, among others. This 2-hour joint effort revealed the commitment of all participating parties in prioritizing the safety and well-being of our community
An information-to-public (ITP) session was also organised to inform the public about emergency procedures, evacuation routes, and safety protocols. It also aims to raise awareness among community members about their roles and responsibilities during such incidents.
IOTMSB Head of Terminal, Ismail Julaihi thanked all participating agencies for their effort in the joint major drill. “The successful completion of this major drill reflects the commitment of IOT Management Sdn Bhd and all participating stakeholders to proactively enhance emergency preparedness.”
“By simulating a realistic collision incident, we are able to identify areas of improvement and best practices to reinforce our response capabilities.”, he added.
